Hannon said that because of the support of their sponsors, Relay For Life of The Delta can help people facing cancer in East County by funding groundbreaking cancer research, supporting education and prevention efforts and providing free information and critical services for people with cancer who need them. “Our virtual ceremony will include photos of luminaria bags as well as a scroll of names we will remember together.” “This year we are inviting participants to email us a photo of their at-home luminaria creations and the names of the loved ones they would like to remember,” Rackley said.
At a traditional in-person event this would mean that participants decorate a luminaria bag in honor, in memory or in support of loved ones. The final virtual event will be a luminaria ceremony that invites the entire East County community to come together, while apart, to remember loved ones lost to cancer. “The goal is to foster a sense of community for our Relayers, which feels especially important this year,” Hannon said.
